Virtual Training for Lubbock Area

Citizens for Road Safety Texas invites interested individuals, community groups, public safety partners, and law enforcement officials in the Lubbock area to attend a training on the new Texas Crosswalk Law, the Lisa Torry Smith Act.
This training is provided through a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation and is part of Citizens for Road Safety Texas’s ongoing effort to raise awareness of the Lisa Torry Smith Act across the state.
The training will provide an overview of the law and explain why it represents an important advancement for pedestrian safety in Texas. The presentation will share the tragic circumstances surrounding Lisa Torry Smith’s death in Fort Bend County, the bipartisan effort that led to passage of the law, and the key legal changes requiring drivers to stop and yield to pedestrians and other vulnerable road users lawfully in a crosswalk.
Tailored for both law enforcement and civic audiences, the training will explain how the law applies, including potential actions and charges when a driver’s failure to stop and yield results in injury or death. The session is intended to raise awareness, support implementation, and help community members and public safety officials better understand this important pedestrian safety law.
