The Fort Bend Independent is reporting:

On June 18, 2021, Governor Greg Abbott signed the Lisa Torry Smith Act, making it a criminal offense for drivers who, through an act of criminal negligence, cause bodily injury or serious bodily injury to pedestrians, a person operating a bicycle, motor-assisted scooter, electronic personal assistive mobility device, neighborhood electric vehicle, or golf cart in the area of a crosswalk. 

Beginning September 1, 2021, a driver may be charged with a Class A Misdemeanor if a driver causes bodily injury to a pedestrian and a State Jail Felony if the driver causes serious bodily injury.
